2 Things to Know before You Buy Your New Cooling Unit

Choosing the right air conditioning unit is important. If you are going to replace your air conditioner with something new, then you need to know how to choose the right unit for your business. So, what are some things that can help you find the right unit?

Square Footage

One thing that you are going to know is the square footage of your business. That's because you need to figure out the tonnage of the air conditioning unit. The tonnage doesn't mean how heavy the unit is. The word tonnage here refers to how much heat the unit can remove in one hour from any given space. A one ton AC unit can generally remove 12,000 BTU in air in an hour. So, you need to know the square footage of your business so that you can figure out how many BTUs the space can hold so that you can figure out how many tons you need to have. It's important for you to know this because you don't want to get a unit that is over or underpowered. An overpowered machine is going to have a shorter life span because it will never run through a full cooling cycle. An undersized unit is going to have a shorter life span because it will have to work too hard to try to cool your space.

Local Climate

Not only does this mean the climate of your city or state, but it also means the climate right around your business. Both of those things are going to impact how hot your business is going to be. One example of how the climate right around your business would affect its temperature is if you are surrounded by a lot of parking lots or roads. That's because those things will absorb the heat and then radiate it out. That will heat up the area around your business so that it will be hotter there than other places. This is what's called a heat sink, and is what makes cities hotter than the countryside. You should talk to the HVAC contractor who is installing your new air conditioning unit about how your new system can counteract that problem.

You want to make sure that your business is cool and comfortable for your employees and your customers. That means you need to get a new air conditioning unit if your old one has problems. There are things that you need to know so that you can get the right unit for your facility.
